At Edulonia we are working to improve our pedagogical project, which combines play with education
School camps are leisure-related activity initiatives, but they also show us the potential they have as a pedagogical activity included in non-formal education. The main objective of any holiday camp, such as Edulònia, is to adapt to the evolution of children's socio-educational needs.
In fact, school colonies were established on the set of ideas developed by the philosopher Rousseau and some of his followers. They were aware of the relevance of education outside the classroom and of direct observation of nature, as well as of physical development as a fundamental part of the integral growth of the person.
Some of the objectives of our camps are:
- To live with the group 24 hours a day. In this way, the students contrast the environment in which they usually live with the one they live in during their stay. This helps to forge and consolidate different interpersonal bonds and to get to know other lifestyles.
- Reducing emotional dependency and adapting to a new social environment. Moving away from the comfort zone and the family bubble is often an opportunity to get rid of emotional attachment. Children experience the need to develop and act more autonomously.
- Having direct contact with the natural environment. Edulònia's houses are located in the middle of nature, because it is important to bring people closer to the knowledge and importance of caring for the environment, as well as providing many benefits for people's health on a physical, mental and emotional level.
- Cultivate critical thinking so that they know how to value successes and learn from mistakes. Motivate participants to make a physical and mental effort in each of the activities they carry out. At the same time, to encourage a spirit of adventure, solidarity and cooperation.
During the summer camps at Edulonia there are many activities and workshops that provide different benefits, for example:
- They go on excursions and competitions, which contribute to the children's sense of self-improvement, collaboration, discipline, willpower and initiative.
- They participate in games and dynamics, because they help to improve creativity and imagination, sharpen the sense of humour, mime and expressiveness. They also foster a social sense, a sense of order and consideration for other individuals or participants.
- They prepare and present songs, plays and dances, which develop their emotional and daring side. It's also a way to educate the musical ear, improve memory and sharpen coordination.
- Crafts and workshops make them feel self-sufficient, as they encourage initiative and improve fine motor skills.
The school camps are a tradition with an extensive project for the future, as they have been organised for more than a century and have always played an essential role in the social and educational sphere of our country. Every year we work to update the methodology according to the circumstances and needs of our society, we also improve our facilities, the incorporation of pedagogical services, and the training, rigour and professionalism with which our monitors work. We believe that empathy is a key element for a camp school to function properly, which is why our team is trained in emotional training programmes such as "Empatik".
